-Notice the ladder in front of the laying boxes... I now can't reach the boxes to check for eggs and clean the boxes.
See that nice roosting bars? They are to small. They can't stand up on them. We ended up putting 1 x 2 through the chicken wire for the night for them to roost on.
I just want to get this inside set up correct so we can complete the walls. We have four more pieces of plywood to put up then we have to go back and put 1 x 2's around the edges we have gaps (The Husband and I are NOT carpenters!).
I'll update you tomorrow on how it goes. On the bright side. See the pine shavings? They are working out great.
Oh My I almost forgot. I'm participating in two blog hops... I'm excited it's my first chicken/homesteading blog hop!
New follower! Thank you for linking up with the Clever Chicks Blog Hop this morning!
ReplyDeleteSo much about keeping chickens is about trial and error. It is so true that we learn from our mistakes and our successes! Thank you for leaving such a lovely comment on the blog today. I hope you will link up tomorrow to our Down Home Blog Hop. I would be honored.
ReplyDeleteHello Kelin,
ReplyDeleteI have only been keeping chickens since March so I am not very knowledgeable yet, but I think you're doing a great job trying to "dial things in" before you finalize the coop. It's going to be great when you're done. Yours are lucky hens. I look forward to reading your next post.
You know that is how I learned. 30 years ago not many were keeping chickens in their backyard so I too made lots of changes. But it's it fun. Enjoy your hens.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a nickel for every tweak and modification we have made to our three coops! You'll get to a place where you're happy with the function, no worries. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up at the Clever Chicks Blog Hop this week! I hope you can join us tomorrow too!
Cheers,
